Welcome to the Burlington-Edison School District's Preschool program, Burlington-Edison Child Development Center (BECDC). BECDC is located at West View Elementary, 515 W Victoria, Burlington. We currently have 8 class sessions:
1) 2 classes of Early Head Start/School District inclusive program (2-3 year olds)
2) 1 class of 2 to 3 year olds School District only
3) 1 class of 3-5 year olds School District only
4) 4 classes of Head Start/School District inclusive program (3-5 year olds)
If your child qualifies for Special Education services with either an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) or an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) they could also be enrolled in Head Start and considered a "dual" student. Just because your child is in one of our blended classrooms they are not necessarily enrolled in Head Start. Please check with your child's teaching staff if you have questions about Head Start.

The following information is just some general classroom guidelines, please feel to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Classroom Guidelines
Bring children to school in clothes that can get dirty. Children learn through their senses and many times use their whole body. In addition, everyday children will go outside so please dress them in appropriate play clothes for the weather.
Provide extra clothes, including underwear. Because we are working on being independent in the bathroom, it is important that children wear clothes they can easily remove themselves. As a classroom policy we ask that children do not wear onsies to class.
Children need to be dropped off and picked up on time. Research shows that children who experience short goodbyes with their parents also experience decreased stress. Your goodbyes should be no longer than 1 minute. Remember to always say goodbye to your child. If this is hard for you please speak with the teachers to work out a plan with the classroom staff for you and your child.
If you would like to visit your child or help with the classroom please let us know. We appreciate and encourage parent involvement and support.
It is the law that all children up to age 8 or up to 4’9 must ride in appropriate child restraints. This means that every classroom child must ride in a car seat. Teachers will be required to report all non-car seat incidents to the local authorities.
It is our policy at the Burlington-Edison Child Development Center that children may not be left unattended in a vehicle. If you have a younger child and it is difficult for you to bring in and out of the classroom, please workout a plan with your child's teacher.
For student safety, no outside food, drinks, or toys are allowed to come into the classroom with you or your child without teacher knowledge and consent.
Please remember your child is learning how to do things on their own and are building independence. Please do not carry your child into school if they are capable of coming in on their own. It is an important step for them to walk into class themselves.
