After School and Field Trips

After School Rehearsals and Performances

Extra-curricular and co-curricular activities in the Fine Arts Department are extensions of the classroom. This is in accordance with the choir student handbook, the Botetourt County Public School Program of Studies and the Standards of Learning (SOLs) for choral music as set forth by the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Each member is expected to attend all required choral activities during the school year including after school rehearsals and choral performances. Students are on time to performances when they are dressed and ready for warm-up at least 30 minutes prior to performance time unless otherwise directed.

Parent Pick-up

Participation in extracurricular events demands extra time from adults outside the classroom. Every attempt will be made to minimize waiting time for parents and guardians. It is expected that parents will be prompt to meet deadlines and arrange timely transportation in order that no one waits unnecessarily. In the event that you are unduly detained, please call the director personally.

Field Trips

Participation in choral events outside the classroom will require that the class is working to improve the quality of individual and class musicianship as the year progresses. Travel to Competitions at District level and other events may be scheduled according to the level of commitment exhibited by each individual choir and as approved by the Director, Principal and Central Office. As a general guideline, the minimum standard will require that students have a participation average of a “B” for the year to travel with the class. This is only reflective of active participation and effort made in the classroom daily. The expectations are outlined in the grading policy. It is also expected that each individual is accountable for appropriate conduct in and out of the classroom. Those persons who show disrespect to the director and classmates and/or are infringing on school rules requiring discipline in this class and others may be ineligible to participate.
