HELPFUL HINTS FOR PARENTS OF SPANISH STUDENTS:
Every student should have an organized binder / folder. Ask to see it! Check if it looks neat!
Your child has homework every day in my class. They need to complete all assignments in order to get credit. Make them show you their homework folder in Schoology to see if they are completing the work!
Parents can help with vocabulary and verb forms. Flashcards make this form of studying possible even if you don’t speak Spanish! You can also quiz them over their notes.
Ask your child to tell you/show you/teach you what was learned in class today. If s/he can explain it, s/he understands it! (and you get to learn some Spanish for free!)
All their grades and homework are posted on Progressbook! Go check it out!
Students can ask me during class to work one-on-one with me on whatever they need.
Learning Spanish is a sequential process and what they learn now, they need all year. If they don’t do well on what we are learning at the time, learning the next material will be extremely difficult. This is their crucial foundation. Please support them in building a strong one!
What students learn when they take a foreign language class:
With that said, students should be spending between 15-30 minutes a night, studying. I always tell students that Spanish is the hardest class on their schedule, as it demands constant practice and recall of vocabulary and grammar. It is hard work, but it pays off very well in the end as students are able to communicate in an entirely different language!
