CORRECTION: Although we believed our explanation was correct when we made this video, a subsequent video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OypJajrHsIg - by Bill French, the inventor of the MOVA Globe, states that interaction of a magnet attached to the shaft and the earth's magnetic field - not a weight and gravity - prevent the shaft from rotating.
