Integrating Technology

Integrating (infusing) of technology occurs when the use of technology by either the teacher and/or the student is seamless. This seamless infusion occurs in many ways, below are four indicators that technology is being seamlessly infused in the classroom:

  • Routine and transparent

  • Accessible and readily available for the task at hand

  • Teachers' and students' willingness to embrace change

  • Supporting the curricular goals, and helping the students to effectively reach their goals

Levels of Technology Integration

1. Sparse: Students rarely use technology to create, collaborate, critically think, or communicate.

2. Basic: Students are comfortable with one or two tools and sometimes use these tools to create projects that show understanding of content.

3. Comfortable: Students are comfortable with a variety of tools and often use these tools to create projects that show understanding of content.

4. Seamless: Students employ technology daily in the classroom using a variety of tools to complete assignments and create projects that show a deep understanding of content.

A Few Means of Technology Integration

Blended Classrooms - a blended classroom takes the traditional classroom and merges it with an online classroom giving you the best of both environments.

Game-Based Learning and Assessment - A valuable way to unlock the instructional power of games and support a student-centered learning environment. Teachers can create game-related performance tasks that are as interesting and engaging as the game itself.

Student-Created Media like Podcasts, Videos, or Slideshows - Students become creators and critics not just consumers, of media

Collaborative Online Tools - Students collaborating with peers, teachers, professionals, experts, etc. via Google Docs, Drawing, Slides, Blogger, etc.
