Some of these are from the Lock textbook and some are external. Open this subfolder to find data sets to accompany the instructor's lessons.
The data sets used in textbook examples and homework assignments are all from the Lock book. Open this subfolder for homework or textbook examples.
The three main ways of getting data into Statkey are:
Choose from the dropdown menu, OR
Enter categorical data manually, OR
Download and upload a file
There are a few select variables from some data sets preloaded into Statkey. You can find them in the first drop-down menu you see on the page you plan to work in. You might check there before uploading a file. There are only a few loaded, though, so this is a better option for some quick experimenting. Some of these preloaded data sets are available for different editions of the textbook. Be sure to choose the one that says 3e for the third edition of the Lock textbook if you see more than one by the same name.
In some cases, categorical summary data are easy to enter manually. Go to the page in Statkey you intend to work in, and click on the Edit Data button. Enter your data manually there.
If neither of these methods work, you may need to download a data set and then upload it into Statkey.
All data sets are stored in the Google Drive folder embedded above. First, click on one of the two subfolders. You will be taken to a Google Drive folder with a list of csv (comma-separated values) files, which are in the correct format for importing into Statkey. Double-click on any file to view it in a browser tab.
You can search (Ctrl+F) for a value in this view. This may be a useful tip for some assignments.
Once you have opened a data file, you should see a download arrow in the upper right corner of your window. Click on the download arrow.
If you are given the option, browse for a location on your hard drive that you will remember. If you are not given the option, assume the file is in your Downloads folder.
Once you have a data file stored on your hard drive, go to the page in Statkey you plan to work in, and click on Upload File. Browse for the csv file you saved in the previous step.
The Statkey User Guide gives a brief outline of what pages in Statkey are used in each chapter of the textbook.
