This course is an introduction into the field of education. The student will read and discuss the latest research that pertains to the classroom, teaching, and learning. The student will be required to complete 16 hours observing various levels of teachers and classrooms (high school for 4 hours, middle school for 4 hours, elementary school for 4 hours, and pre-elementary school for 4 hours). The student will use specific forms to record and reflect on their classroom observations. The student's course grade will be based on two major papers (3 to 5 pages each), three quizzes, a comprehensive final exam, and finally two (2) short teaching demonstrations. Upon completion of this course, a student should have enough information and classroom experience to decide if becoming a teacher is in his/her future.
The documents below will give the student a detailed breakdown of the particulars of the course. Unexpected events (inclement weather, power outage, campus shutdown, etc.) may occur and may slightly alter the timetable below.
