4th-5th Grade Recorders

4th-5th grade students learn to play the recorder at a more independent level than in 3rd grade. There are a total of 18 songs divided into 6 levels of difficulty that students can learn to read and play. Students must be able to perform at least three songs during the course of the recorder unit to meet grade level expectations. Students can download and practice songs by clicking on the links below.

The purpose of learning to play the recorder is for students to learn to READ and perform from printed music notation. While students might learn to perform a song from memory, they are forbidden from doing so when being tested. If a song is performed from memory, students are not showing their ability to READ the music.

SPECIAL NOTE: The 18 songs MUST be learned and passed off in sequence. While a student has the ability to practice and learn a song later in the unit by clicking on links below, he/she will not be allowed to perform that song for a music grade until all previous songs have been learned and passed off.
