1918 Influenza Pandemic and 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic

On March 25,2020 Teaching American History presented a Webinar about the 1918 Influenza Pandemic which killed more people globally than had World War I which came to an end the same year. This historic event has many lessons for our present situation:
We are all in this together- both in American democracy and in the pandemic.
We each need to take responsibility for ourselves and our families and communities to act in ways that will prevent the spread of the virus and help those who are infected by it survive.
What is most important is what people do locally.
In time, given public health efforts globally (carried out at the local level), like the 1918 Pandemic, the 2020 Pandemic should run its course.
4 documents accompanied the Webinar, and it is amazing how relevant they remain.
1st is Directive from the Washington DC Health Department giving information and instructions about dealing with the flu.
2nd is a story excerpt from Katherine Anne Porter's Pale Horse, Pale Rider which conveys a heartbreaking sense of the times from the 1918 Influenza Epidemic. (Warning, this is very sad, but important to help us emphathize)
3rd is Ernest Gibson's account of an American Military unit that was struck down by the flu in cramped quarters aboard the ship on which it was bound for France to join in the fight at the end of WWI
4th is a Sermon by the Reverend Francis Grimke about how we are truly all in this together
