Great Detectives! New Enrichment Class to start on October 27

Students in our fall Enrichment Class, The Great Chocolate Caper, finished up yesterday with a visit from a member of the Atlantic police force. Officer Tim Olsen, a former student in the Atlantic Home School Assistance Program and a 2010 graduate of AHS, visited our class and gave the students a look at real detective work. One of the highlights was pulling fingerprints off of a glass using real fingerprinting equipment. Students were able to ask many questions and Officer Olsen did a great job of relating to the students.

Just wanted to remind all of you that Tina and I will be at a conference next Monday and Tuesday in Des Moines. Because of that there are no enrichment classes scheduled for next Tuesday (October 20) Our new class, Great Detectives, will begin on October 27.

Students will be choosing books to read featuring great fictional detectives, and choosing projects to do based on the book they choose. They will be earning Mystery Bucks for their projects and for each mystery that they read between now and the end of the year. Right before Christmas, they will have the opportunity to spend their money.

If your child would like to get a head start, they can be reading mysteries at home to earn Mystery Bucks. Just keep track of mysteries that they read (or for younger students, you can read to them)

If you are not already signed up for Great Detectives and would like to have your children participate, please let Linda or Tina know.
