The mission of the Atlantic Home School Assistance Program is to empower parents as primary educators to achieve the goal of delivering a quality home education by furnishing resources, offering parental support, providing enrichment opportunities for students, and creating a learning community among our staff and program families.
The goal of the Atlantic Home School Assistance Program (HSAP) is to empower parents to educate their children in the home environment with the assistance of credentialed teachers who can help them achieve educational goals. Home Educators take legal responsibility for the educational progress of their children.
Tina Olson serves as the director of the program. Tina and Cara Andersen share the roles of supervising individual families, teaching enrichment classes, and planning workshops and field trips.
Tina has been with the program since 2013. She graduated from Central College in 1993 with an elementary education degree and endorsements in social studies, reading, and talented & gifted. In the past years she has enjoyed substitute teaching in Exira and Elk Horn-Kimballton, while home schooling her own children. She enjoys time with her grandchildren! Every day is different and full of new adventures when you homeschool and I'm excited to be a part of the adventure with the homeschool families in the AHSAP.
Cara joined the program in 2023. She graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education: Birth-3rd grade with Early Childhood Special Education. She is currently taking classes at Drake to complete the K-12 talented and gifted endorsement program. In the past her education journey has brought her into preschool and kindergarten classrooms as well as spending some years homeschooling her own children. She is very excited for the opportunity to meet all the families in the program, build relationships, and support the educational journeys of homeschooling!
