Now that you have a JASON account you can also access the science simulations/games we have used in class like "Landform Detective" and "Master Mines."

Week of March 30th

1. One you have logged into JASON Learning (see directions above), you will notice several assignments on the assignment tab. First, watch "What is Force?"

2. Then, read "Motion and Gravitational Force." You can also click the "play" icon to have the article read to you.

3. Watch "Madhu's Argo Report: Roller Coaster Reaction."

4. Lastly, put your new knowledge to the test by playing "Coaster Creator." With your new learning about Force and Motion, will you finally be able to unlock the last level?

Week of April 6th

1. On JASON Learning (see directions at the top), watch "Force, Acceleration, and Velocity" and "Meet Matt Brumbelow."

2. Apply what you learned about force and cars while playing "The Fast and the Curious."

3. Watch "Expedition 4 Briefing: Make It Work" to learn about how scientists use force to explore the ocean with ROVs. Then apply what you learned about forces while playing "Commander of the Nautilus."

Week of April 20th

1. Watch this video about energy:

2. Read this article to learn more.

3. Apply what you know by building a circuit with this simulation.

4. Now that you have more information try playing Transform It again.

Week of April 27th

1. Watch this video about electricty:

2. Read this article to learn more about alternative types of energy.

3. With your new learning, try playing Energy City again.

The fourth graders are invited to a LIVE field trip over Zoom with New England Science and Sailing. The topic of the field trip is 'Underwater Exploration—Challenge to Explore the Deep." There will be a lot of connections to the underwater ROVs that the students are learning about in the May 4th and May 11th assignments.

CAP STEM Lesson Part 1.mp4

For this week’s Science Distance Learning assignment, you will be building hydraulic machines. At some point this week, a bus driver will deliver a bag of supplies to your home. This bag will include everything you need to build a model of a hydraulic machine (directions, parts, glue, sand paper, etc.) These supplies are thanks to an anonymous donor from the Civil Air Patrol. Please take lots of pictures that we can share as a “thank you.”

I can’t wait to see what you build. Send pictures/videos to cimhoff@ashfordct.org. I will combine all the pictures and videos into a video to share with your classmates. If you have photo permission, I will also share some of the pictures with the Civil Air Patrol to thank them for their donation.
