Math Course 1
Welcome Letter and Class Info
Welcome back to Aquarian and a new year of math. This year your child will study Saxon Math Course 1 (aka 6th grade Math) with me, Lisa Botero. I am excited to work with your child and explore math with them this year. Math is at a new time. It is from 8:35 - 9:50.
There will be concepts your child will find challenging throughout the year, but we will work as a team to get through each lesson. By staying positive and working hard every day, each student will be successful in this class. Your children are all amazing and capable. I am excited to work with them this year.
GRADING
(School wide grading policy for Math)
90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D
Below 60 F
*Homework comprises 25% of the final grade.
*Tests are 75% of the final grade.
Math grades will be posted in Q. Progress reports will be sent home mid quarter and upon request.
ASSESSMENTS
The first test will be after lesson 10. Thereafter, there will be a test after every 5 lessons. The test is 70% of your grade. You may re-take a test if you score below an 80%. The original test score and the retake test score are averaged.
ABSENCES
If you are absent, you are responsible for completing the homework assigned on the day of the absence(s). Students have one day per absence to turn in homework missed due to an absence. If you are anticipating an extended absence due to a vacation, please contact me ahead of time so that I can gather assignments. Class Expectations
1. Be prepared for class. You will need:
*pencil and eraser
*textbook
*homework
*and most importantly … a positive attitude!
2. Follow along during the lesson and work hard.
3. Ask questions if you do not understand.
4. Put on your positive pants!
