Using NoodleTools

Citation generators like NoodleTools can help you create your Works Cited page. These are excellent tools to help you stay organized and save time. Just remember, they are only tools: it is up to you as the researcher to make sure all citations are as complete and as accurate as possible.

You can also use NoodleTools to take and organize your notes, create outlines, collaborate with classmates, and get feedback from teachers and or the librarian.

Here are a few quick tips for using NoodleTools to create correct citations:

  • Websites. NoodleTools does not support "auto-citing" of websites, because there are some things humans still do better than computers. If you have created a citation through another tool, you can still use the Copy & Paste function to add it to your Works Cited page in NoodleTools. Proofread carefully, however, as no automatic citation generator for websites is perfect.

  • Books. To save time, use the ISBN on the back of the book to add it to your Works Cited page. If you only use a portion of a book (for example, a single chapter, essay, or story) then go back and add that information to the citation.

  • Databases. All of our research databases provide citations in MLA format. You can use the Copy & Paste function to add them to your Works Cited page. Many also offer the option to export directly into NoodleTools. Always proofread ready-made citations for accuracy.

Sit back, relax, and let NoodleTools take care of basic formatting for your Works Cited entries. Many of our databases allow you to export citation directly into NoodleTools.

Research Tip

Add sources to your Works Cited page as SOON as you decide to use them in your paper. That way you won't get to the end of the process and realize you are missing key information. Additionally, when you use NoodleTools, you need to have the source entered BEFORE you can use it in your notes. If you wind up not using a source after all, be sure to remove it.
