Not knowing much about regulators we started out testing everything we got a hand on.Â
There are several power regulators for +5V and +3V3 available on the market. Some of them - the really cheap ones - are worth the money because you can't build them yourself for less. On the pricey side we found one really excellent regulator from Teddy Pardo which we like to use for the audio section of the DAC. That's hard to built yourself.
Generally we find regulators based on the LM317 great. This basic circuit was (entirely) and is still (partly) used by Naim Audio for power regulation. With the information provided by Neil McBride and Martin we set out to build various home made regulators. Their sound is very satisfying and you can choose how far you want to excel it.
