I'm entering into my sixth year at Sellwood Middle School and I must say every year is better than the last and this year seems to be starting off no different.
The most exciting thing about this school year for me is continuing to help develop the AVID Elective and program at SMS. I have been on the AVID Site Team since it started at Sellwood and have thoroughly enjoyed all of the AVID training I've attended. The picture above is from the days I spent this summer down in San Diego at the AVID Summer Institute. It is my goal to do my best to continue to grow and improve the AVID program here at SMS and help all our students, but in particular our AVID students really grow to meet their own academic and personal goals.
I grew up in Eastern Oregon and moved to Portland in 2000 where I completed my Bachelors in Elementary and Middle School Education at University of Portland. After graduating I was anxious to explore more parts of our country, so I spent time teaching in Arizona and Pennsylvania before finally returning to Portland in 2007. After 5 years of teaching I decided to go back to grad school, so I went to Portland State University for my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.
I love teaching, I love math, and I love working at Sellwood Middle School. When I'm not at school I spend my free time playing pinball, practicing yoga, or hanging out with my family. I truly enjoy collaborating with each of the members of our Sellwood Middle School community and encourage you to stop on by Room 111 to say hello!
Here's a peek at how I spent my summer:
