We are the keepers of a tradition of Rosicrucian groups in Dallas that dates back nearly 90 years. Over the past 54 years since the founding of Triangle Lodge in 1968, we have provided service to help elevate the consciousness of our members and community. Through classes, seminars, experiments, social gatherings and discussion groups, we remain active and committed to learning as Rosicrucian students and sharing with others.
Early Rosicrucians in Dallas
The history of Rosicrucian groups in Dallas dates back to around 1933 when Grand Lodge sent out announcements of meetings. Grand Lodge records show that the Dallas affiliated body was intermittently active during these early years. Records of groups in the archives include: † 1939-42: Dallas Chapter† 1947-49: Lone Star Chapter† 1952-68: Triangle Chapter Triangle Chapter is the group that laid the foundation and grew into what we now know as Triangle Lodge. Its first meeting was held on January 20, 1952 at the Beard & Stone Electric Company auditorium on the corner of Live Oak St and Washington Ave. At a second meeting held on November 25, 1952 at Odd Fellows Hall on Greenville Ave, officers were selected and voted on by the members, and others appointed by the Master. The members voted on the chapter's name, Triangle Chapter, and met at Odd Fellows Hall until 1966 when the building on Insurance Lane was constructed.
Our Building
Triangle Chapter first began discussing the construction of a new temple in December 1953, and formally established a building committee in April 1958. The members set goals and held meditation and visualization periods. Jack Armstrong, a talented artist and husband of Jean Armstrong, created a conception of the future building that was framed and placed in the hallway at Odd Fellows Hall for regular viewing. With sufficient funding raised by February 1961 to support the building plans, the Triangle Chapter building and real estate committees moved forward in acquiring land and investigating zoning, building codes, and parking requirements. Construction of the new building began in April 1966, and when completed was the fourth building in the United States devoted exclusively for the work of Rosicrucian affiliated bodies and owned by AMORC.On January 14, 1967, the Imperator of the Rosicrucian Order, Ralph M. Lewis, led a public open house to introduce Triangle Chapter to the Dallas community and the world. He praised the members for their work accomplished in creating a physical symbol to represent the highest ideals of the Order. The members of the Triangle Chapter continued to enhance the building by adding new furniture and other items of decor, landscaping the garden on the adjacent lot. A team of talented and inspired artists led by Pat Eliott added to the beauty of the Temple by painting Egyptian art murals on the walls, modeled from similar murals at the Grand Lodge Temple in San Jose.
A.A. Taliaferro
Father A.A. Taliaferro (pronounced "Tolliver") played a very pivotal role in the establishment of Triangle Chapter and Triangle Lodge, and the growth of the group over several decades. He was founder and pastor of St. Alcuin’s Community Church in Dallas. For more than 40 years, he lectured and taught classes on comparative religion and applied modern mysticism. He was an active member of AMORC for more than 50 years. Transcripts of many of the Rosicrucian classes taught by Fr. Taliaferro are available for reading by members in our library, and some of his books can be purchased for further study.
Triangle Lodge
At the time of building construction, Triangle Chapter had grown to about 100 members. In May 1968, the membership voted to accept the additional responsibilities of becoming a Lodge, and thus Triangle Chapter became Triangle Lodge. Members added the library, a chair lift for the handicapped, a glass supply cabinet, and much more. Our library now contains decades and centuries of knowledge housed on bookshelves designed and built by member volunteers.
According to our archives, in 1973 Triangle Lodge placed a series of taped programs on the radio in nearby Fort Worth. In January 1976, a re-dedication celebration was held, where the members dedicated themselves individually and collectively as a Lodge to continue working for the betterment of mankind. In February 1977, Triangle Lodge helped Grand Lodge conduct a large public seminar at the University of Texas at Arlington with 1,600 people in attendance. More recently, Triangle Lodge installed a Peace Pole in its garden on March 9, 2017. It is dedicated as a monument for peace with an inscription that proclaims “May peace prevail on earth” in eight languages. The garden remains a special place where members and visitors can commune with nature, visualize and meditate on peace, and send other positive and loving thoughts throughout the year. In 2018, Triangle Lodge celebrated its 50th anniversary and was recognized for its service to humanity in communications by Imperator Christian Bernard and Grand Master Julie Scott.
Rosicrucian Learning Center of Dallas
Recognizing a greater need by non-members for access to Rosicrucian principles, Triangle Lodge launched the Rosicrucian Learning Center of Dallas in September 2021. This learning center is our public face to help attract seekers to our open events and make the teachings more accessible to all. Its inaugural launch event was an open house on September 25, 2021. Since then our weekly public meditations and classes, as well as periodic workshops and open houses, have continued to be offered under the auspices of the Rosicrucian Learning Center of Dallas.
