Weekly Reading Focus

Week of August 31-September 4, 2020

Our first week of reading brings a story from one of my absolute FAVORITE children's authors...Tomie DePaola! His humor and illustrations are endearing to young readers. We will be focusing on the elements that create a fictional text and digging deep into the traits of characters. The Art Lesson by Tomie DePaola is a fun story for back to school. Tomie shares a personal story of an experience he had with his 1st grade teacher and the art teacher. The students are sure to love this one!

We are starting the chapter book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. I like to read this book at the beginning of the school year to set the stage for the way we will focus our energy on being the good in the world, by word and deed. I hope your child will come home and talk to you about this book and share their thoughts. Reading a good book can be life changing!
