Counseling in the classroom

5th Grade: Guidance is one of the specials rotations.

5th Grade Guidance is a class that meets for approximately 5 days, twice each term. We cover many topics including: Character Traits, Executive Functining Student Skills, Mindfulness and Self-Care, Bully prevention, Alcohol/Tobacco/Drugs prevention, STEP (Student Tools for Emergency Planning/Prepareness), Internet Safety, and Careers. This is one of Mrs. Berdan's favorite classes because it allows her to continue to get to know all of the new middle school students. It also allows them to get to know her. Plus, we have a lot of fun!

6th Grade: Guidance/Tech 6 share time during the specials rotation

Mrs. Berdan meets with the 6th Grade for Guidance during the Tech 6 specials rotation. Most often, the first 2 days of the rotation will be for guidance. We build on similar topics to the 5th grade guidance.

7th Grade: Classroom guidance lessons 1-2 times a month

7th Grade Guidance looks much different than 6th grade. In 7th grade, Mrs. Berdan goes into core classes 1-2 times per month for classroom guidance. We cover topics that 7th grade students identify as important to them. Sometimes these topics include: character traits, self-confidence, healthy choices, friendships, careers, high school, alcohol/tobacco/drugs prevention, internet safety, and much more. During 7th grade, students will be learning and talking about depression and suicide.

8th Grade: Classroom guidance lessons as needed
