International Diners is a fun way to collect some great recipes and the dinners are a feast. The participants are asked to choose a month they will host a meal and decide upon a cuisine theme. Those whose homes are unable accommodate a dinner party may partner with someone who can.
Information regarding the host and the cuisine is then posted in the monthly UWA Newsletter. Those interested in attending contact the host and indicate if they are bringing a guest. The host plans a menu and all participants receive one dish to prepare. Each dinner offers an unique culinary experience with an extensive variety of dishes to savor.
Monthly dinners are what we aim for but with people so busy as well as often gone that becomes a challenge. Dinners are a relatively easy thing to host as most of the dinner (or all, for that matter) walks through the door with your guests, leaving only the table to set, but if you are uncertain of what is entailed when you offer to host a dinner, here are some key points:
In addition to table setting, the host is responsible for choosing the country/theme, assembling the menu and then assigning the recipes from the menu to the RSVP'd guests. Hosts also provide some form of adult beverage to start the evening off with guests bringing a bottle of wine to share with the dinner group as well. Consider co-hosting with a friend. It makes the process more enjoyable and shares the work in preparing the day of, for sure.
Sometime before sitting down to dinner, someone other than the host tallies the cost of dinner per person by collecting receipts from everyone, adding up the total cost and dividing by the number of persons attending. Guests then pay the amount they are short of the determined cost or receive a refund for the amount they've exceeded the cost per person.
Remember that just because you've been to a dinner with 17 people does not mean that you too must prepare for that many. Your home and situation will dictate the number of guests you can accommodate.
These dinners are so much fun and provide everyone involved an opportunity to prepare recipes and enjoy cuisine we might not otherwise take on!
