Learning Target: Students will note historical and contextual information related to the text. Students will comprehend and analyze chapters 1-6. 

Bell Work: Compare yourself to the main character. How are you the same? How are you different? Include at least two quotations which describe the main character and explain what the quotations suggest. 

Assignment:  Read over the author and historical information. Keep reading Chapters 1-6.


Learning Target:  Students will participate in a small group and then a whole group discussion over the text. Groups will review important plot information, significant quotes, and thoughts, questions and epiphanies had by the group members. 

Bell Work: Is there anything about this book that is like your life? Record and discuss at least two quotations which help to illustrate the similarity between the book and your life. 

Assignment: Literature Circle Discussion #1. Discussion and annotations. Read Chapters 7-9

Learning Target: Students will evaluate their understanding of chapters 1-6 by taking the reading quiz. Students will compose a paragraph response that analyzes persuasive rhetoric in the text. 

Bell Work: Do you disagree with what one of the characters has done? Why do you disagree so strongly? Record at least two quotations which support your view and explain how they support your point. 

Assignment: Chap 1-6 Quiz/ Persuasive Rhetoric Response/ Read Chapters 7-12

Bell Work: What made the section you just read really important? Really interesting? Record and explain at least two quotations which illustrate your point. 

Assignment: Chapters 7-12 Lit Circle and TQE Discussion #2. Complete word choice and analysis of effect worksheet. Read Chapters 13-15

Learning Target: Students will evaluate their understanding of chapters 7-12 by taking the reading quiz. Students will take note of and analyze the use of character types within the text. Students will comprehend and analyze chapters 16-18. 

Assignment: Quiz over 7-12/ Characterization Lesson and Group Analysis/ Read Chapters 16-18.
