Rocketry:

-Water Rocket tools: band saw, belt and hand sanders, hot glue guns, etc.

-Science linkages: PSI, aerodynamics, thrust, stability, drag, pitch, roll, yaw, fuels. Newton’s laws of motion.

-Math linkages: measurement, calculating rocket altitude.

-History linkages: history of rocketry, Robert Goddard, video “October

Sky.”

Boat Technology:

-Construction of a model boat / tested in a 16’ hydro-test tank.

-Science linkages: Hydrodynamics, buoyancy, ballast, and stern eddies.

-Math linkages: nautical mile calculations.

CO2 Dragster:

-CO2 race car: Engineering Design Process, along with communication via an orthographic 1-1 scale drawing.

-Science linkages: friction, aerodynamic drag, rolling resistance, avg. speed in MPH, and velocity.

-Math linkages: scale, measurement, MPH and velocity calculations.

-History linkages: Auto industry, Henry Ford, etc.

Olympic Bobsled:

-Scaled Bobsled: tested on a 32’ bobsled track.

-Science linkages: inertia, G-force, velocity, sliding friction, and centripetal force.

-Math linkages: MPH calculations.

-History linkages: Bobsled history from 1899 to present. Video “Cool Runnings.”
