Skyline Blues Audition Requirements (JUNE 9, 2025 12:00-5:00!)
CONTRACT (below) MUST BE SIGNED AND TURNED IN PRIOR TO AUDITIONS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A SPOT IN BLUES
Students should prepare a solo in a contemporary style (pop, jazz, alternative, country, folk-rock, etc.-not classical) and should be prepared to sing it a cappella. Sheet music is not needed. The song should show off your range and stage presence/expression. Treble voices-we'll need to hear both your chest voice (belt) and head voice. Those who are called back after the solo portion will learn a portion of a song and will be evaluated on rehearsal technique and work ethic, stage presence, versatility (ability to be both a soloist and an ensemble member who blends and is able to perform in multiple vocal styles), intonation, and ability to hold your harmony part. You may also be asked to sight read.
If you are a beat boxer (vocal percussionist), you should prepare a beat boxing solo to be performed immediately after you sing your solo. Your beat boxing solo should be as thoroughly prepared as your singing solo-we would like to hear varying beats, fills, and techniques.
Auditions will be performed for Mrs. CieChanski, Ms. Alawi, and the returning members of Skyline Blues, who are, due to the nature of the many elements of Skyline Blues that are self-directed, involved in the audition process and the decisions.
Skyline Blues rehearsals are Mondays 6-8 and Thursdays 3-5:30

Skyline Blues Contract NOT YET UPDATED FOR 25-26
I am committed to making Skyline Blues my highest priority.
I understand that many of Skyline Blues’s performances will be recording projects and I agree to appear on camera and to have my voice audio recorded for these projects.
Are you on the District’s DO NOT PUBLISH list? YES NO Don’t know
I will attend all mandatory rehearsals and performances except if excused under the Skyline Choir Attendance Policy for after school events.
I will pay the “pay to play” Skyline Blues Fee of $215, which covers competition fees, staff fees, t-shirts, arrangements, etc. at Choir Registration in Sept./Oct. as well as the uniform fee of $25 (Contact Ms. Cie regarding financial aid questions on this)
Skyline Blues occasionally travels to competition or invitational events. I am aware of travel expenses, which range from $100-$2500, and understand that fundraising is required and that financial aid is available.
I am committed to maintaining a grade of a B or higher in my choir classes and I understand that failure to do so may result in my suspension or removal from Skyline Blues.
Each student will be allowed 3 personal absences to be used as needed for conflicts that are not covered by the Skyline Choir Attendance Policy or the District’s Music/Athletic Policy. I understand that I may not redeem these absences in the two weeks leading up to any ICHSA/MSVMA/NACC/Competition event or for the rehearsal immediately preceding a performance and will plan accordingly.
I understand that excessive tardiness may result in my suspension or removal from Skyline Blues and that tardies over 20 minutes will be counted as partial personal days.
I will follow the Skyline Choir Attendance Policy and understand that I will not be excused from Skyline Blues for any non-Skyline activities (YPT, PTG, travel sports, etc.) unless these absences occur as part of my three personal absences; that I will not be excused from Skyline Blues to play a winter sport or the Winter Play; and will only be excused from Skyline Blues for Fall and Spring Musical Tech Week, Fall Sports or Spring Sport games, tournaments, etc. (not for practice) in accordance with the District’s Music/Athletics Policy. I understand that if I am to miss rehearsal for games/tournaments/meets/etc. I am expected to make up that rehearsal time.
I understand that December-April is our competitive season and will put Skyline Blues before other activities, including athletics, during that period.
I will strictly adhere to Skyline Blues deadlines.
I understand that extra performances will be added and that I will be expected to participate.
I will wear my Skyline Blues T-Shirt or Uniform WHENEVER it is required. I will not LOSE it.
I will maintain a Facebook account to communicate with members of Blues and Directors regularly.
I understand that it is MY responsibility-NOT my parents’ responsibility- to be aware of and stay on top of my rehearsal and performance schedule and that I am expected to communicate with my parents directly in any instance of the schedule changing. I understand that Mrs. Cie will not provide regular SB updates like she does for choir because the members of Skyline Blues are expected to take care of themselves.
I will be present at the Skyline Blues events listed on the next page.
I will demonstrate a spirit of POSITUDE and will adhere to the group NORMS of ASSUME GOOD WILL, GO DIRECT, and GIVE 100% at all times.
I understand that if I am not upholding the agreements made in this contract, I may be asked to leave the group.
