Powerschool & Grades:
What does an “M” mean?
An "M" means I have collected and graded the assignment and I have not received it from that student.
How often do you update Powerschool?
I update Powerschool almost daily but at least twice a week.
How are grades calculated?
Quarter grades will include:
Assignments:
Can a student improve the grade they have earned?
YES! ALL students will have opportunities to improve their understanding and redo summative assessments. Any student who earns below a 70% on a summative assessment is REQUIRED to redo the assessment. Students wishing to retake an assessment will be required to analyze their mistakes and attend at least one Math Mingle before retaking the assessment.
Extra Help:
What can my child do if he/she needs extra help on an assignment/topic?
I am available to meet with any student who has questions, is having difficulty with the material, or just wants extra practice. Students can attend a scheduled Math Mingle or set up another time to meet with me.
Math Mingles
Advisory: Tuesday & Thursday
Lunch: Tuesday & Thursday
After School: By appointment
Enrichment:
What do you do for students who need an extra challenge?
The CMP3 curriculum is designed to allow for differentiation within the lessons. The tasks include flexibility for multiple strategies and extensions. There are also opportunities for practice and extension (OPE) listed on the unit sheets.
Communication:
What happens if my child has to absent?
I post all assignments on my website each week so students and parents can access them from home. I also provide students with a unit sheet so they will know what they have missed if they are absent. Students have also gotten names and numbers for 2-3 Study Buddies from their class, whom they can call with questions.
Whenever possible, let me know ahead of time of absences longer than a day so I can provide work for students prior to the absence. When a student returns to school, they has an extra day to turn in any assignment that they have missed. Students should check the “While You Were Gone” folders for any handouts that were passed out.
How will I know about my child's progress in math class?
Powerschool is an excellent resource for parents. I update it regularly to provide current and accurate information regarding missing assignments and grades. I send home a reflection sheet when students have not made good choices regarding behavior. A parent must sign the sheet before the student returns it to me.
