After two years of pandemic-related interruptions of numerous celebrations across the state, Michiganders will again have plenty of options in 2022 when it comes to celebrating the Fourth of July.
Here are a sampling of some of those celebrations.
"The DNR released a list of the 10 most common hunting violations that conservation officers encounter every firearm season to help hunters avoid simple violations. "
"It’s reveal week at Michigan’s Best!
In a few days, Amy Sherman and I will be announcing our top picks, as well as special awards, for Michigan’s Best Doughnut.
It was a great search! We met so many hard-working bakers, owners, managers and their crew members who get up early or work 24/7 to make the doughnuts for our smiling faces.
And we thank you."
"The renovations, done by Summit Township-based contractor R.W. Mercer, include a larger kitchen, an office for the center director, an expanded weight room, a resurfaced gym floor, new windows and a new roof. The gym equipment in the weight room was donated by Arlo Steel, officials said.
Robinson was also excited, she said, to see Jackson residents honored throughout the building. Two notable hometown heroes now have their names on the center’s two classrooms: Flamingo Brown, a community advocate and the first Black and first female president of the Jackson School Board, and Tony Dungy, an NFL Hall of Famer."
"Restaurants across Michigan are cautiously reopening for dine-in service, after months of either being closed, or exclusively doing take-out. It’s both an exciting, and still difficult time for our local restaurants, as they work at a decreased capacity, or continue to only do food to-go. There’s no better time then now to support your favorite spots, and we’ve got some great suggestions for you from all over the state"

"A new reality hit this year when the world began to experience the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many, it gave our Bright Walls Team a lot to think about and consider.
We've chosen to postpone the Bright Walls Mural Festival’s grand finale until 2021.
We love Jackson and promise we will deliver a few "bright" surprises this year. In the meantime, take care of one another and stay bright"
Summer camp is back at the Jackson YMCA starting June 22.
Camps are available for kids age 6 to 11. There is limited space, so early registration is encouraged, officials said.
The open-air market at the corner of Louis Glick Highway and Mechanic Street, is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., May 29 and Saturday, May 30, Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Cory Mays said. It will be open on Fridays and Saturdays all summer.
Many local eateries are still, in the midst of a tumultuous time, offering carryout and delivery options for whatever you might be craving.
Here are five to try this Takeout Tuesday.
"The city issued 627 building permits with an estimated construction value of $54 million, Dobies said, a nearly 350 percent increase from 2018. He also noted new businesses that opened last year like Axe Play, Tilted Arcade Bar and Jackson Candle Company. "
"One of the many things our city has going for us is our tremendous parks," Dobies said. "When I was first elected, I signed a pledge to ensure that everyone has access to a high-quality park within a 10-minute walk of their home."
"Dobies also wants to open a nature reserve along the Grand River watershed north of Dwight, Bates and Pleasant streets, extending across Elm Street to Northeast Elementary School. The city already owns 43 acres in the area. Consumers Energy, Jackson Public Schools and residents own another 126 acres in the space, he said."
"The Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center will close Saturday, Feb. 29, and remained closed through this summer, as nearly $2 million in renovations are made.
The King Center is opening twice in early March – for the presidential primary election on March 10 and for a job fair on March 11.
Beyond that, all youth programs normally at the King Center are being moved to St. John's United Center for Caring, 801 S. Mechanic St. Senior programs are moving to Second Missionary Baptist Church, 304 E. Prospect St.
"
"For the second time in four weeks, the Jackson YMCA capital campaign is receiving a seven-figure donation from one of the county's top employers.
Henry Ford Allegiance Health announced on Tuesday, Feb. 11, a $1-million gift toward building a new Jackson YMCA in the parking lot of the current YMCA at 127 W. Wesley St., just south of downtown Jackson.
It’s tied for the largest gift in HFAH history, Jackson YMCA officials said."
"The Jackson YMCA has now raised $18.1 million out of its $25-million goal. It’s expected to finish fundraising later this year and start construction in 2021. "
"Joystick Mobile Video Gaming can bring their consoles and five 55-inch, 4K high-definition television screens wherever an event is taking place for up to 20 people. The foam parties can be hosted indoors and outdoors, weather permitting. Parties and events can also be hosted at Pop Up and Paint, 120 E. Cortland St. "
"While brainstorming ways to expand his services, Porter came across foam cannons and purchased one with a 20-foot shooting range. Pieced together with a 30-foot tarp slide and the occasional glow-in-the-dark setting, it has become a popular offering. He debuted the foam cannon last year at an NAACP back-to-school event at the King Center, where it was a hit, Porter said. "
"I got my start here, and I treasure those memories," Poppe said. "You took a bet on me a long time ago. I'm blessed to be able to return the favor."
The foundation is matching every donated dollar, up to $3 million. Once the $6 million is in, it will put the Jackson YMCA above the $20 million mark in pledges.
"(It's) monumental," Jackson YMCA CEO Shawna Tello said. "When people respond to this challenge, it's going to propel us forward and bring this dream to fruition."
"The newly christened Great Lake-to-Lake Trail Route No. 1 plots a course for hikers and bikers to travel 275 miles from Lake Michigan clear across to Lake Huron. One of the more interesting southern Michigan trail towns along the way: Jackson, less than 40 miles west of Ann Arbor. Rich in history, the city played an important role in the Underground Railroad and lays claim to being the birthplace of the Republican Party (bragging rights disputed by Ripon, Wisconsin). "
Bright Walls is a public art and mural festival founded and run by the Jackson Young Professionals. In just two years, the festival has hosted artists from across the globe and brought 36 murals to the downtown district — creating a new destination in our community.
