MHS PE Distance Learning Syllabus


OREGON PHYSICAL EDUCATION GOALS & STANDARDS:

  1. Students are to provide evidence of participation and knowledge in lifetime physical activities by completing workout sheets, logging workouts digitally, writing fitness goals, etc. (PE.CM.FL.01, PE.CM.FL.02).


HEALTH, SAFETY & OTHER CONCERNS:

  1. Students may have to complete indoor workouts if poor weather conditions apply (i.e. smoke, extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, etc.).

  2. If you are injured during a workout, please inform your teacher immediately through email or the Google Meet chat feature during class.

  3. If you feel you should be excused from a daily workout/activity (i.e. injury, illness), please EMAIL your teacher BEFORE class begins to discuss alternative solutions for daily participation.


PE DEPT. CLASSES OFFERINGS:

  1. Walking for Success (9th-12th grade):

    1. Class consists of students walking and/or running daily using one of the following Fitness Apps:



      1. Nike Run Club

      2. Map My Run

      3. Goals-Fitness

      4. Couch to 5K

      5. Other fitness apps allowed with teacher permission


  1. Strength & Conditioning (9th-12th):

    1. Students will participate in daily workouts which will include fitness/conditioning and a weight lifting program designated by the teacher. This might also include sprint/distance conditioning, flexibility, plyometric workouts, cross fit, olympic lifting and sport specific weight lifting.


P.E. STANDARDS-BASED GRADING SYSTEM:

  1. Students will be scored on a daily participation standard.

      1. Includes daily participation, effort, attendance, preparedness, behavior & attitude.

      2. Every day of the week is considered a participation day, but will be graded as a WEEKLY assignment in Powerschool with one standard attached. Students MUST turn in proof of participation by either remaining online during class, or by sending a screenshot or time-lapse video of their workout.


  1. Students will need to log on daily to their “whitebuffalo” email to access their Google Classroom and Google Meets for daily ATTENDANCE, announcements and daily workouts/activities.


  1. Standards-Based OVERALL Grade:

    1. “0” (or No Effort) = Student has shown no evidence of progress regarding effort, attitude, participation, performance, attendance, and/or knowledge. The students’ overall grade of “F” may also reflect they have more than 9 ND’s (no dress days) which have not been made up.

    2. “1” (or D) = Student demonstrates little progress regarding effort, attitude, participation, performance, attendance, and/or knowledge.

    3. “2” (or C) = Student is considered passing and demonstrates basic requirements for effort and progress toward increased participation, performance and/or knowledge.

    4. “3” (or B) = Student exceeds the basic requirements for the daily activity, assignment, performance and/or knowledge.

    5. “4” (or A) = Student masters the requirements for the daily activity, assignment, performance and/or knowledge.


ABSENCE & NO DRESS MAKE-UPS:

  1. Absences from any PE class can and should be made-up. Season 1 practices can be used as PE makeup for participation. Student-athletes must have their coach email their PE teacher letting them know which days they participated in athletics.
