Camp Tamarack is one of 4Js approved Outdoor School vendors and is near Sisters, Oregon (map) a few minutes from Suttle Lake (map). The camp itself has it's own small lake called Dark Lake.
This is a 2-night 3-day outdoor school experience offered to your child at no cost through state provided funds. At the camp, students extend science, math, and critical thinking to the environment in nature. They have community building activities and build bonds with other kids their age from Edison Elementary who also move to RMS next year.
French is included. Their written work and reading is in French. Camp counselors for CES students are Frenchies from IHS, so language support is embedded. Counselors and students are also encouraged/expected to speak French in cabins. Additionally, class meetings are in French. Luckily, our interns are always happy to attend and teachers here support them leaving the campus classroom and heading to the outdoor classroom with us for 3 days. Bonus: Beads are given for being caught speaking French.
Because travel time is so short, the students' time is maximized on learning and community.
4Js risk management policy strictly prohibits swimming in the lake, but we will kayak/canoe will proper safety gear.
