      • signal phrase (leads into the words from the book)
      • "words directly from the book in quotation marks"
      • (Number ONLY of the page the words came from, in parentheses)
      • Period to end the whole big sentence.

  • First, on a sheet of notebook paper

      • not factual questions that can be answered in the plot
      • questions about why things happened
      • questions about how the book ties to the world outside the book
    • Consider:
      • the author's purpose
      • the characters' dreams (and what happens to them)
      • loneliness for each character
      • questions in the plot you're not sure about
      • whether these things happen today
    • Take lots of notes!
