As busy professionals, it is highly unlikely that you will have time to complete every single assignment offered in this course. Happily, perfection is not required for deep learning--only active participation is. Our goal is to create a course that will encourage your active participation by making the purpose of every assignment clear and by designing in flexibility and breathing room so that you can confidently make choices about how to invest your time.
Each assignment is labeled as an opportunity to READ about some of the theories underlying the Reading Apprenticeship framework, PRACTICE metacognitive routines, DISCUSS readings, videos, or practice experiences, or MAKE It REAL (try out a metacognitive routine with your students and report back to the group).
Your facilitator(s) will read and respond to all of your written contributions to the course. The emphasis is on formative feedback and coaching, not evaluation. Points are assigned to indicate completion of assignments.
For logistical purposes of helping you plan your time, and for those of you who have elected to take this course for credit, RA 101 is set up as Pass / Fail.
The Canvas Grading scheme is organized so that your work is weighted by Reading, Discussion, and Practice posts (40%), "Making it Real" Assignments (30%) and Final Paper (30%).
