Science, Technology, Engineering & Math

Aloha,

My name is Paula Evans and I am the STEM resource teacher at Mokapu Elementary School.   This is my third decade of teaching students in grades K-6.  I began teaching in California and graduated from the University of California Dominguez Hills and went on to teach there for the next 15 years.  My husband and I moved to Hawai'i 20 years ago when we were first stationed here.  We decided to stay forever, making this beautiful place our permanent home.   I received my Master's Degree  Foundations of Education from the University of Hawaii and have worked at Mokapu for the past fourteen years.

I greatly enjoy working in the STEM fields and  engaging students in project-based learning activities.  My teaching philosophy is that all children are unique and need a safe and rigorous learning environment where they can grow mentally, emotionally and socially.  I wholeheartedly believe that a teacher's role is that of a guide and facilitator, that students must have access to hands-on activities in which they are given student voice and choice, and that science, technology, engineering and mathematics must be integrated into every students' education to ensure that they are college and career ready.
