Coral Conservation and Coconut Island

Our 5th graders have beens studying Coral conservation with the help of our Windward District CTE Lending Library. They have begun their investigation how the MCBH and surrounding areas affect the health of our coral reef in Kaneohe Bay.

Our field trip to Coconut Island was AMAZING and such a learning experience. We explored the origins of the island, history with UH, took algae and plankton samples from the bay, discovered under the lens of the microscope various types of plankton. sifted through algae to explore various marine animals, and observed shark tanks.
