ALOHA,
My name is April Bright, and I have been teaching elementary school, third and fourth grade mostly, for fifteen years. I moved to Oahu from Southern California just a few years back.
I was born and raised in California. I come from a family of teachers. In California I completed my college years, married, and had two children. Recently, we decided to move to Hawaii to immerse ourselves in the Hawaiian culture. My husband is Native Hawaiian, and we wanted our children to experience and learn more about their heritage.
My goal is to provide your children with a safe and welcoming environment in which to learn. It is very important for us to work together as a classroom family, or Ohana. We will be spending a lot of time together, and will need to treat each other with respect, kindness, and compassion. I know that everyone learns and thinks differently, and it is my job to help each student grow as a learner and as a person of good character. All students will be successful.
In my spare time, when I am not grading papers or planning lessons, I can be found at the beach playing smash ball and frisbee with my boys, or cheering my high-schooler on at his soccer matches. As well, I enjoy endless snuggles with my dog Ziggy. I also love reading, going to the movies, taking photographs, and listening to music. Living in Southern California afforded me many opportunities to attend live music concerts, which is one of my favorite pastimes.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. It is so important to keep communication open between us. The best way to reach me is through email. Please understand that I might not get back to you until just after the school day has ended.
