CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Be in your assigned seat or area, ready to work when class begins.
Have paper, pencils, books and all needed supplies everyday.
Keep hands, feet, books and objects to yourself.
No profanity, rude gestures, bullying, teasing or put downs.
Follow directions of school personnel.
Along with those expectations, I have a few that I have added to our classroom.
Be Respectful
Be Kind
Work Hard
Believe In Yourself
On the front board in our classroom, we have a MAPS acronym, which stands for:
M: materials (pencils, books, crayons…)
A: attitude Kulia i ka nu’u - always do your best
P: placement (at desk, in groups…)
S: sound (quiet, low voices, discussion…)
Students should know to look at the MAPS board whenever they enter the classroom to know what to do.
POSITIVE EXPECTATIONS PROCEDURE
Along with our classroom and school expectations, we follow a positive expectations procedure created by Diana Day. This is used school wide, so that students are familiar with it every year. We use this procedure when students are not choosing to use classroom etiquette and expectations.
Students will receive a gentle reminder to get to work, stop talking, and to change their habits.
After two gentle reminders, the third will be when the teacher asks the student to move to the classroom Re-focus area. This is a designated spot where students can reflect on what was happening, mistakes they may have made, and how they can turn it around. Here they will fill out a Re-focus form to give to the teacher.
Should a student be Re-focused more than two times in one day, the third time the student will instead be sent to a Buddy Room. This is a designated classroom the that been pre-assigned. Students will know where it is and how to get there. They will take with them a Buddy Room Report Form to fill out while there. Should your child be asked to visit the Buddy Room, you will receive a call home from me, as well as the Buddy Room Report Form for you to read over, comment on, and sign and return to me the following day.
Should the Buddy Room not be a good placement for your child, they will most likely be referred to the office where they can chat with one of our administrators. If this should occur, you will receive a call home from our principal.
