Proctorio

Proctorio Resources

There are a variety of strategies for successfully gauging student knowledge and fostering learning outcomes in an online environment. Maintaining academic integrity is an important aspect of those strategies. While most courses can be designed to assess student comprehension without proctoring software, there are rare instances where the use of exam integrity tools are an effective strategy to minimize opportunity for academic dishonesty. If, in consultation with your program leadership and 2U's Curriculum & Learning team, the use of online proctoring software will be necessary, Proctorio is the tool available in the Digital Campus.

When choosing to use Proctorio, each faculty member takes on the responsibility of reviewing our recommended settings, and selecting a configuration that will provide the correct level of exam security to confirm the exam’s integrity. Prior to taking an exam, students will be guided through a step-by-step process to verify their identity, surroundings, and the integrity of their exam. After students complete the exam, faculty will have access to a report of exam attempts, which will include flags of suspicious activity identified by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Student sessions will be recorded and visible with flags denoting any suspicious activity.

Proctorio does not grade assessments nor make any final determinations towards a student’s behavior – rather it provides evidence and support for faculty to make their own judgements on student academic integrity.

The resources below will walk you through how to successfully set up Proctorio for your exam. 2U's Faculty Training Specialists can also guide you through the set up and discuss the options available to you. In making setting decisions we recommend you confer with other instructors in your program and your program leadership to ensure you are aligned with institution standards, academic integrity policy, and to provide some consistency in the student experience whenever possible. It is ultimately up to you as the instructor to determine what aspects of the student testing environment needs to be controlled to ensure the assessment's integrity.
