Recording Video in Soapbox

Now that Soapbox is configured, you're ready to record your videos. Follow the steps below to get started.

Screen Captures: Soapbox allows you to record your desktop in addition to the feed from your camera. If you need to record a screen capture or software demonstration and you don't want students to see the feed from your camera, you'll be able to select that option once you've finished your recording!

Before you Record

To help recording go as smoothly as possible, close out any background applications and extra/unused tabs you might have open.

Step 1: Navigate to Soapbox

From a Google Chrome browser window, navigate to: soapbox.wistia.com/recording. If not automatically signed in, sign into your Wistia account using the "Sign in using email instead" option.

Step 2: Framing & Devices

Adjust your framing so that you are in the center third of the filming window.

Make sure the correct webcam and microphone are selected.

Step 3: Record

When you are ready, click the record button! You will be prompted to share your screen. When you've selected your screen to share, Soapbox will start counting you down. You will hear 5 clicks, and see a countdown to 0. Once the camera is rolling, you will see a red flashing circle.

Congratulations! You are now recording. Soapbox will be recording your screen, so you won’t be able to see yourself as you record. Use your screen to move through your visual aids as you would if you were teaching live.

When you’re done recording, click Stop to stop recording. This will automatically take you to the video edit page:
