Week of February 22-25

Here we are again working remotely. I am aware that a number of my students are struggling to complete their work using this format. Please follow up with them to ensure that they are not falling behind. I will be checking with them first thing Monday morning to see what they have unfinished. I will expect that they have it turned in for credit by Wednesday, March 3rd. If we are unable to attend school on Friday, February 25th, I will post directions about those assignments. Please text me if you have any questions. I hope to be able to be at school Friday afternoon for those students who were unable to get their AMI packets on Tuesday evening.

We are in the 5th week of the Lutheran Schools AR Challenge. Everyone needs to be reading 15 to 20 minutes each night to help us earn points. Please also remind your student that their 10 AR points for the 3rd quarter are due by Friday, March 11.

No Zoom today

Today's Assignments

Friday, February 25, 2022

English, Vocabulary, and Spelling -- You are to write a short story about “A Day in the Snow” using one of the children in the above pictures as your main character. You need to create a story that tells what your main character did that was fun on his day off of school. Each of the kids pictured is slightly different. Each one is doing something different; each kid is holding something different. Look at each one carefully before choosing one. For example, in the picture to the right, the middle kid has skis on his feet. So, a story with him as the main character would need to involve skiing. If you want, you may include other “snow kids” from these 6 characters in your story. Make sure you name your main characters. There is no minimum length for your story. It needs to be long enough to tell what your main character does that is interesting and fun.

In addition, you need to include at least 3 words in your story that are in the Unit 25 Spelling list

and at least 3 words from the Unit 8 Vocabulary list. Those words will be listed at the bottom of the assignment page.

English We have read the first 6 chapters of The Cricket in Times Square. Imagine that you are trapped in a picnic basket and are about to experience quite an adventure. Write an adventure story that includes answers to all of the following questions:

· Where does your adventure begin?

· What kind of goodies are in the basket?

· Where does your journey take you?

· What kind of creature are you?

· Are you discovered or do you make a narrow escape?

· Where does your adventure end?

The length of your story is not as important as making sure that you have included all of the information that is asked for in these questions. You may type your story, or you may write it on notebook paper. It is due on Monday, February 7.

This was assigned last week during our quarantine time. I have received 3 completed stories. I know of several students who have started the story, but have not finished it. This is an opportunity for the rest of my students to get this finished and ready for display.
