PARENT MEETING RECAP MONDAY - MARCH 25TH
It was great to see so many of you at last night's Parent Meeting. Following is a highlight of what was discussed:
1. PRACTICE LOCATIONS:
Practice locations and times may shift week to week, once construction on the new high school begins. The coaches will share the practice schedule on Sundays, so that you know where your athlete's practice will be taking place that week. As soon as I get the schedule, I'll send out an email. Locations where practice may be held include Reading, Stoneham, Lynnfield and Saugus.
Athletes will be responsible for getting to practice on their own when it's at an off-site location. For athletes who don't drive or have their own transportation, they may get a ride from fellow teammates if their parents/caregivers are comfortable. Otherwise, parents/caregivers should be prepared to assist in securing rides for their athlete.
We know this isn't ideal! There isn't much that the coaches can do about this, given the upcoming construction. Our Athletic Director, Brendan Kent, has worked hard to ensure that our team will have appropriate places to practice. As noted last night, some athletes will be impacted by this more than others depending on which event(s) they're training for.
2. 2024 MEET SCHEDULE:
Here is a link to the current schedule: 2024 Spring Track & Field Schedule. Please hang onto this link and check it prior to a meet, as sometimes last minute changes occur.
The coaches will let us know details regarding order of events and who will be competing first (girls' team or boys') as soon as they can.
3. BOOSTERS:
The Boosters is a volunteer group whose primary responsibility is to raise funds for the Spring Track & Field program, as well as Winter Track & Field and Fall's Cross Country program. We are always looking for new ideas to enhance the program! Please be sure to join us at our first meeting of the Spring season. Details as follows:
DATE: Wednesday, March 27
TIME: 6:30pm
PLACE: The Savings Bank Conference Room (Main Street, Wakefield)
AGENDA:
Fundraising plans for the season
End of season banquet planning
Senior Day brainstorming session (It's tradition to celebrate the seniors after the last home meet. In light of Wakefield not having any home meets this season due to the construction project, we'd like to brainstorm alternative ways to make Senior Day happen.)
*Our biggest fundraiser is the annual Turkey Trot, which is a 5k around Lake Q on Thanksgiving morning. Proceeds from the race go toward Spring Track & Field, as well as Winter Track & Field and Fall's Cross Country program. We have begun efforts for this year's race but we need your help! If you're interested in joining the team, please join our meeting on Wednesday or reach out to us by email. It is truly a special event for the entire community!
4. COACHES' CONTACT INFORMATION
While the Boosters does its best to communicate information, updates, etc. as soon as we can, should you ever have questions regarding practice, meets, training, or anything specific to your athlete's performance, your best bet is to communicate directly with his/her coach. The coaches' emails are as follows:
Coach Ruben Reinoso: Ruben.Reinoso@wpsk12.org
Coach Perry Pappas: Perry.Pappas@wpsk12.org
Coach Karen Barrett: krnbarrett@yahoo.com
5. CHECK IN WITH YOUR ATHLETE!
As mentioned last night, the coaches communicate A LOT with the team, both at practice as well as on Google Classroom. Athletes almost always have updates/information before the Boosters. Don't hesitate to check in with your athlete to ensure that you're not missing any pertinent information. We know some kids are better than others at communicating with their parents, but trust me when I tell you that the coaches share any and all updates with the kids first and foremost.
As always, should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. Let's make this our biggest and best season yet!
Have a great night,
Jenn
