Gentrification is a topic that evokes a lot of emotion. Many long-time residents of neighborhoods experiencing growth and the arrival of new neighbors are concerned about what the effects of this new growth means for them. Can they stay in the home where they've raised a family? Will they benefit from the new economic opportunities coming to their neighborhoods? And what do new arrivals mean for the culture of the place they live?
City Rising, an hour-long documentary produced by KCET (the PBS affiliate in Southern California) is a nuanced and compelling explanation of what gentrification looks like in three California cities.
