Welcome to my personal page!

I am an Assistant Professor at the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering of the University of the Aegean and head of the Interactive Systems Design Laboratory.

I received my PhD in Informatics at the University of Piraeus, Greece, with subject: “Intelligent Agents in Virtual Environments” in 2003. I also hold a BSc in Informatics from the same department and an MSc with Distinction in “Computer Graphics and Virtual Environments” from the Department of Computer Science, University of Hull, UK.

My research interests include: Virtual Reality, Serious Games, Digital (Virtual) Heritage, Intelligent Virtual Agents, Collaborative Virtual Environments, Adaptivity and Personalization in 3D Environments.

Research

My research currently focuses on:

  • Natural Interactions in Virtual Environments: design and evaluation of novel interaction techniques for navigation and object manipulation in Desktop and immersive virtual environments. Emphasis in multimodal and kinesthetic interactions.

  • Educational Virtual Worlds and Serious Games: single- or multi-user educational 3D worlds for design & engineering, science learning and environmental awareness. Utilization of virtual worlds for constructivist, problem-based learning activities.

  • Digital Heritage: mobile augmented reality for on-site presentation of cultural heritage, representation of intangible heritage through embodied interactions and role-playing, digital characters in virtual heritage.

Teaching and Supervision
