SBCW assisting South Brunswick Food Pantry 2017

When SBCW's commissioner Jo Hochman informed about the effect this year's natural disasters in Texas and Florida had on our local incoming food donations our team decided on a visit and sponsoring the SB Food Pantry while delivering a big "basket" of items. It was a very good experience to go shopping with SBCW Volunteer Joyce Mehta and make the most out of each dollar with the specific needs in mind! We delivered 388 items including four frozen turkeys. We had learned that SB Food Pantry also accepts sealed frozen food. Let the photos tell you what all we included....

A touching experience at the ALDI Food Store in East Windsor was when an elderly lady watched us filling our carts and a conversation started. The lady shared that she got help from her local Food Bank when things had fallen apart in her life. She then spontaniously decided to quickly drive to her home and come back with a box of travel sized toiletries from hotels which she gave us to bring to the pantry. She said she will never forget that she found help when she needed it most.

SB Food Pantry director Jeanne Wert was filled with joy and gave our volunteer Nehal Thakkar and SBCW Chair Margit Haas-Rethage a tour through the very well organized Pantry room.

SBCW encourages all to support our mission to EMPOWER WOMEN in whatever way possible. Gratitude expressed!

SBHS student and SBCW volunteer Nehal Thakkar:

South Brunswick Food Pantry puts so much effort into organizing the food donations to make sure that every individual and family that truly needs the food gets some. During the holidays the staffers work diligently to prepare boxes that include holiday favorites. For example, in the Thanksgiving boxes there were frozen turkey or ham mashed potatoes and so much more. They do incredible work and service for the residents in this community. I was amazed at how well organized the shelves are and the diversity of items. A very special experience from me and thank you, SB Food Bank Director Jeanne Wolf for giving us a tour!

The Pantry thrives on donations and is always looking for more!
