Homework Information and Assignments

Hi parents! I know that life can be crazy and every child has different circumstances when leaving school each day. I will work hard with your child each and every day to accomplish our learning goals in the classroom to eliminate the need for much work outside of the school day.

However, there will be times that further extension of learning is necessary to their success. I wanted to share some suggested guidelines for what your role will be in this process. If you have any questions, please let me know!

I encourage you to:

  • ask your child about what they are studying in school
  • ask your child to show you any homework assignments
  • assist your child in organizing homework materials
  • help your child formulate a plan for completing homework
  • provide an appropriate space for your child to do their homework

You may, if you wish...

  • help your child interpret assignment directions
  • proofread your child's work, pointing out errors
  • read aloud required reading to your child
  • give practice quizzes to your child to help prepare for tests
  • help your child brainstorm ideas for papers or projects
  • praise your child for completing homework

What you should not have to do (and please let me know if any of these are true!):

  • attempt to teach your child concepts or skills that they seem unfamiliar with (any homework given should be for practice on material they already understand)
  • complete the assignment for your child (again, see above!)
  • have your child sacrifice sleep to do homework (no homework is worth that!)
