Workshop Information

This workshop is 1 of 28 selected by Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI). As the leader of the LOC, Dr. Mallory Molina attended a 4.5 day workshop at STScI where she learned how to use JWST proposal tools for a variety of instrument modes. STScI has adopted the "train-the-trainer" model, where the local workshop leaders attend an intensive proposal planning workshop at STScI in November. Then they go back to their home institutions and host training events for their local communities.

The Montana State University workshop will give a condensed overview of JWST as well as provided guided, hands-on exposure time calculator (ETC) and astronomer's proposal tool (APT) examples. For a complete schedule, please see our Schedule page.

Statement Regarding the Workshops from STScI

JWST Master Class graduates offer a valuable service to their local communities by organizing JWST proposal planning workshops. They help potential proposers find the basic information they need to prepare for JWST, and they facilitate the initial learning process. Graduates are not representatives of STScI, and there is no expectation that they will be able to respond to all inquiries and questions. The final authority for all information about JWST science and proposal process resides with the JWST Documentation System (JDox), the STScI Helpdesk at jwsthelp.stsci.edu, and the JWST science website at jwst.stsci.edu.
