Teaching
I am not currently teaching any classes at the University of Oregon.
Federico Ardilla's four axioms (see also Todos Cuentan: cultivating diversity in combinatorics):
Mathematical potential is distributed equally among different groups, irrespective of geographic, demographic, and economic boundaries.
Everyone can have joyful, meaningful, and empowering mathematical experiences.
Mathematics is a powerful, malleable tool that can be shaped and used differently by various communities to serve their needs.
Every student deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
Teaching Style
I believe it is essential for students to do mathematics in order to learn mathematics. Students in my courses should expect to spend time in class working on problems and then having a chance to ask questions. Depending on the course we may make use of "active learning" techniques such as inquiry-based learning or flipped classroom.
