Keynote Address

We are happy to announce that this year's MSULC keynote speaker is UMD Professor Jeffrey Lidz!

His talk is titled: "Are meanings in the head? Lessons from the language-vision interface "

ABSTRACT:

We argue that meanings are psychological objects, that sometimes they are structured and that they are shared across individuals. Using data from the interaction between linguistic meaning and extralinguistic cognition, we are able to identify the format of the semantic representations for a set of quantificational determiners. We conclude with some speculations about how, given truth-conditional equivalences, learners are able to link specific mental representations with the appropriate quantifier.
