FAQs

Q: Can I attend GLEEFUL even if I'm not presenting or not going to submit an abstract?

A: First, you may want to consider submitting an abstract anyway. All of our submissions are reviewed by graduate students and faculty, whose anonymous feedback will be passed on to all submitters. So, the worst that could happen would be that you get constructive feedback on a project or idea you have. But the answer to this question is yes! Anyone is more than welcome to attend GLEEFUL whether you submit an abstract or not, get accepted or not, etc... We would especially love more attendees this year given the success of last years workshops, aimed at providing undergraduates with an opportunity to expand their research skills. All we ask is that if you do plan on attending, please make sure to fill out the registration form. This will allow us to plan more accurately. Once again, everyone who plans on attending the conference should fill out this registration form. Finally, see the FAQ below about accommodations and getting here. As noted, preference will be given to those who are presenting at GLEEFUL, but we hope to provide crash space for everyone, if they would like it.

Q: What does qUALMS look for in a submission?

A: qUALMS is looking for original, undergraduate research to be presented at GLEEFUL. While summaries of other research are great, such summaries are not appropriate for presentation at this particular conference. Furthermore, submissions can be related to any formal or experimental issue within the language sciences. That is, we solicit submissions of original research within the academic discipline of linguistics, construed broadly.

Q: Can I submit more than one abstract?

A: Presenters are welcome to be authors on up to two abstracts; however, it is likely that authors will only be granted presentation slots if there are drops or if there is time available for more presentations based on other submissions. Furthermore, authors will be limited to one paper presentation.

Q: How do I get to East Lansing?

A: Check out the "Getting Here" page; we've listed information for most of the options available.

Q: Where can I stay?

A: We've been able to provide crash space to all presenters during the past GLEEFULs. Usually, this has been with other linguistics undergraduates at MSU. We hope to be able to continue to do so this year. If it comes down to it, preference for crash space will be given to those who are actually presenting at GLEEFUL. Nonetheless, we hope to provide crash space to everyone who plans on attending, whether you're actually presenting or just coming to see the conference and attend the workshops.
