A and an replace number one in a sentence. Instead of saying

There is one school in Bregana.

we say

There is a school in Bregana.

A i an zamijenjuju broj jedan. Dolaze ispred imenice u jednini.

Ne možemo reći I am a twelve years old.

When do we use an? Kad koristimo a, a kad an?

Slušamo izgovor riječi i ako je prvi zvuk koji čujemo vowel - samoglasnik/otvornik , ispred riječi pišemo a. One orange = an orange (jedna naranča).

Ako riječ započinje suglasnikom/zatvornikom (consonant) ispred nje ide a.

one boy = a boy = jedan dječak

a uniform = jedna uniforma (u izgovoru je početno j kod riječi uniform).

We listen to how the word is pronounced. When it is pronounced with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u) we use an - an orange.

The plural of nouns is usually formed by adding -s or -es to the word. No '

Množina imenica se najčešće tvori dodavanjem nastavka -s ili -es na riječ. NEMA APOSTROFA kod množine imenica.

Neke imenice su nepravilne, neke gube f koji prelazi u v, neke imenice ostaju iste i u jednini i u množini.

a school - three schools

a girl - five girls

a bus - two buses

a church - four churches

Some nouns lose the f and it transforms into v and then we add -s, -es

a life - several lives

a leaf - five leaves

a knife - two knives

Some nouns are irregular and have different endings

a child - three children

a man - seven men

a woman - two women

a tooth - twenty-eight teeth

a foot - two feet

a mouse - several mice

a goose - some geese

a person - some people

Some nouns keep the same form in the plural

a fish - some fish

a sheep - some sheep

a deer - 5 deer

Some nouns that end in -y, lose the y

a country - 5 countries

a bakery - 2 bakeries

a county- 20 counties

Some don't:

a monkey - three monkeys

We look at the letter if front of -y. If that letter is a vowel, we just add -s. Ako je ispred y samolgasnik, y ostaje i samo dadamo nastavak -s.

Ako je ispred y suglasnik, y se gubi i dodajemo -ies.

If that letter is a consonant, the y disappears, and we add ies to the word.

Today is the 2nd of December.

My birthday is on the 1st of August.

My mum's birthday is on the 10th of May, and my dad's birthday is on the 30th of January.

Let's get to know each other!

This is me in Madrid - the most beautiful city in the world. That's the Spanish teacher talking :-).

I love Madrid but I am an FC Barcelona fan, just so you know.

Barcelona is the Gaudi city.

Do you know who Gaudi was?

I love London, too.

Send me your photos, tell me what you like!

I love reading and going shopping.

I like watching sports; I don't like doing them.

I love cartoons, my favourite Disney character is Tinkerbell.

My favourite school subject is English :-).

What about you?
