Bootcamp
Overview
Battletech Bootcamp is a 1 hour guided introduction to Battletech the table top board game and also provides an overview to the Battletech universe and miniatures gaming hobby. This is the ideal place to start for anyone new to Battletech or even new to the hobby of tabletop/miniatures gaming.
Like other scenarios the demo team runs, there have been many variations of "Bootcamp" over the years and many agents run a Bootcamp/Grinder combination at smaller cons.

Bootcamp
Bootcamp is a 1 hour time slot
The Battletech box set suggests players be 14 but we have successfully taught players much younger than that. Players need to be able to add and subtract to 12 fluently, read, and most importantly have a good attention span (at least an hour) and patience.
All materials are provided and players will go home with their very first record sheet.
There are two players on a single basic hexboard each playing a single mech of a pre-set pairing.
In the first 30 minutes the agent (GM) gives an overview of the Battletech universe and then walks everyone through a turn step by step. In the last 30 minutes players play each other and ask questions of the agent as needed.
Players will learn all the rules of standard (tournament legal) Battletech play (including heat, internal structure, ammo, and modifier dice) so players are able to go straight from Bootcamp to Grinder.
Descriptions as posted listed in the Origins/Gencon Event Listings
Short:
Learn (or relearn) to play. Perfect for new players, even those without miniature or tabletop experience.
Long:
This is an hour-long event that will teach you to play the game using the standard rules that we use in all our other games (not intro, quick-start, or shortened rules) and will give you an overview of the greater Battletech universe and miniatures gaming hobby. Each player will use only one mech on a one vs. one battle against the person sitting opposite them on a basic map sheet. As a group, the GM will walk the players through each step of the turn process and introduce the universe/gaming hobby. After a couple turns done step by step with the GM, players will try to complete more turns against each other with the GM there to provide help and clarity as needed. Once you have completed this event players are encouraged to keep learning by playing in the Battletech Grinder.
