E K Green was a wine merchant in Simonstown and Kimberley.

A letter from the manager states that these tokens represented a deposit on a bottle which was refunded when the bottle was returned. The tokens were worth a cash refund of 1d "as empty bottles when returned were valued at one shilling per dozen".

The tokens were used from 1907 and only withdrawn in about 1930.

There were cardboard varities of these tokens issued at one stage.
