Lone Star Flight Museum

11551 Aerospace Ave, Houston, TX 77034 (Houston Ellington Field Airport)

The Museum originally began as a private collection of historic aircraft in 1985. As the collection grew, it's owner decided to place them on public display in 1990. The Lone Star Flight Museum, a non-profit organisation funded entirely through private donations, was formed. Formerly located in Galveston, the museum suffered heavy damage and devastation during Hurricane Ike in September 2008. Most of the airworthy aircraft were flown out before the hurricane hit, however the remaining exhibits were either destroyed or heavily damaged. The museum subsequently decided to move to Ellington Airport in Houston where it's current state of the art facility was opened on 16th September 2017 housing the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame, an airworthy collection of historic aircraft plus a high-tech Aviation Learning Center with dynamic hands-on exhibits.
