Solving the Case

He was asked to appear as a witness before a federal grand jury for a case violating prohibition laws. He lied and said that he had pneumonia for 6 weeks and was in no shape to travel. The FBI investigated this and found out that he had been taking vacations to the Bahamas during this time. They arrested him for contempt of court, but he was released on bond. Two months later he was arrested again for carrying a concealed weapon on him and was sent to jail for a year. He was released in 1931 and he was then tried for his contempt of court charge. The federal judge sentenced him to 6 months in prison. During his time in jail they gathered evidence that he failed to pay his income taxes. He was convicted on October 24th 1931 and was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
